Hi. I'm Alan.
After a 21 year career in Toronto and New York as a foreign exchange broker in the international currency markets, the wagon train moved west to Fernie in 2003. We were attracted by the mountains, down to earth Fernie vibe and belief that it would be a great place to raise a family. Our friends thought we were crazy, coming to a town of less that 5,000 with no jobs, knowing no-one and having a 12 yr. old and 10 yr. old but when your gut speaks to you, you should listen!
So, how have things worked out? So far, so good. Hundreds of deals, millions of dollars, repeat, referral and satisfied customers and clients who have become friends. Having the genuine satisfaction of being a part of people’s lives as they move through one of life’s huge decisions. As the saying goes, if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life and all of these things have made the years fly by. To engage my creative side, I’ve also started a small development company, with 2 homes successfully built and other projects in the pipeline.
In a small town you feel more closely connected to the community and it’s been so satisfying to feel you have played a part in helping deal with inevitable change and growth. I’ve been on Fernie City Council, numerous committees and working groups, coached soccer and stood on the side of ski racing courses, freezing as a volunteer. Riding (and crashing) my mountain bike in the summer ripping powder and groomers in the winter.
I believe my role as a realtor is to bring both a local and wide-ranging perspective. Understanding the complexities of the market, communicate in a way that relates to your client’s needs and objectives and then successfully facilitate and negotiate the best outcome. When people are involved in real estate it usually means a significant life event is happening, from 1st time home buyers, people downsizing, families growing, a change of community or making an investment. People place a high degree of trust in their realtor and this is a trust and a responsibility I take very seriously.
